The Key Things Every Person Needs To Know Before They Start Travel Hacking

Travel Hacking unlocks thousands of dollars in free travel! The process is simple, but it does require strategy. Starting without a good or clear strategy can lead to squandered points, missed opportunities, wasted time, and frustrating mistakes. I’ve seen too many people get excited by the opportunity of free travel, but then get frustrated because as they tried to figure it out on their own, they got overwhelmed, made key mistakes, or needlessly emptied out their points. Not All Points Are Created Equal

This is the key principle that separates the casual amateurs from the skilled professionals in the Travel Hacking world. Knowing the different types of points and the values of those points is essential. This is a paradigm shifting reality that will often make or break your potential for dream travel. The four types of points are: Transferable Points, Hotel Points, Airline Points, and Fixed-Value Points. 

• Transferable Points can be transferred into dozens of airline or hotel point programs.
• Hotel Points can be used for hotels, but many people miss that you can also use those points for all-inclusive resorts and house rentals.
• Airline Points can be used for flights, and make it possible for you to fly in lay-flat business class seats for free.
• Fixed-Value Points can be used through credit card travel portals, and you can book boutique lodging, cruises, rentals, and experiences for free with your points.

Earning Points is Easy. Using Them Well is the Real Game-Changer.

When done right, your points multiply in value at both the earning and redemption stages, turning everyday purchases into thousands of dollars in travel value. One of biggest mistakes that most people make is that they redeem their points for less than 1¢ per point value.

Let me illustrate this with three ways that I've redeemed points, using the examples of 55,000 points:

• If you used those points for cash back... 55,000pts = $550 = 1¢ per points (This is the worst way to redeem your points)
• If you used those points for an all-inclusive resort... 55,000pts = $1,550 Stay = 3¢ per point
• If you used those points for a lay-flat business class international flight... 55,000pts = $4,200 Plane Ticket = 7.6¢ per points.

You should never redeem points for less that 1¢ per point in value, and often times you can get 3¢-10¢ per points in value on your points redemptions. This is why I teach people my Double Multiplier System. If you multiply the number of points you earn per dollar spent (e.g. 5% back on groceries), then you redeem those points for high value (e.g. 5¢ per point), you've now earned 25% in travel rewards just off of your groceries!

Instead of getting 1-2% back like a cash-back card, Travel Hacking can give you 20%, 30%, or even 50% back in free travel.

Quality Matters More Than Quantity

It does matter the order in which you sign up for cards. Signing up for the wrong cards or in the wrong order can be the difference of thousands of dollars in free travel, because of factors like the Chase 5/24 Rule, Travel Rewards > Cash Back, and more.
